According to the Confederation of British Industry, the economic slowdown should ease in the second half of 2009 but the economy will only start growing again in spring 2010.

The CBI calculates the economy shrank by 1.8% in the first three months of 2009 – and predicts it will contract by 3.9% over 2009 as a whole. The economy should eventually return to growth in the second quarter of 2010, it adds, but advance by just 0.1% in 2010.
