Credit cards can be a regular part of your strategy to save money. Knowing how to use them correctly, however, is necessary. Here are some easy to follow tips.

Many people already know that credit cards can be very convenient. This convenience often ends, however, because many people do not use a credit card correctly, or allow themselves to get into credit card debt. Here are some tips about how to save money with a credit card and use them to your advantage.

Choose a Credit Card Based On Your Expenses

Saving money with credit cards is possible, but only with the right usage of it. Many people are deceived into thinking that having a credit card is saving them money – no matter how they use it. It just won’t happen.

There are many kinds of credit cards available and many of them target a particular type of expense. Some focus on airfares, some on cars, or gas. You want to start your search for the right credit card by looking at the area where you have the most monthly expenses.

Get One That Rewards You for Your Largest Monthly Expenses

This type of credit card will also enable you to save money because they usually give you the largest amount of rebate on that type of purchase. Although many of them give a rebate, or cash back, on most of your purchases, some credit card companies will give up to 5% back on certain purchases.

Obviously, if you can get 5% back – rather than 1% – on your most purchased item each month, then this also means that it will also give you the largest rebate possible. This will provide you with a larger savings than other uses.

Go for the Lowest Interest Rate Possible

Besides the type of credit card, though, you will also want to consider the interest rate on the card, too. Even with a 0% Introductory Offer, you want to remember that the interest rate will kick in sooner or later. That is the interest rate that you will be paying when it does.

The best way to use any credit card and save the most money is to simply pay off the entire amount owed before it is due. This way you pay absolutely no interest, no late fees – and this method allows you to save money. Make sure that the credit card also has no annual fees, too. Also, be sure to remember that things like only one late payment can instantly cause you to get put into a very high interest rate – of more than 29%!

Select Balance Transfer Credit Cards If You Have Debt

If you already have some credit card debt, then you will want to get a credit card that also has a balance transfer feature on it. This allows you to transfer current balances to the new credit card and pay 0% interest for up to one year. This would help you save a ton of money during that year, and will give you time to reduce that credit card debt considerably.

Saving money on a credit card really is not complex. All it takes is getting the right one in the first place, and then using it wisely afterwards. If you already have credit card debt, do not put any more purchases on it until the debt is fully paid.

Everyone needs financial planning - from the child with an income to the largest international corporations. Using money right enables you to have control over your money.

In a day when the value of our currency is constantly changing and money is not so easily obtained, financial planning is a proven way to ensure the wisest use of the money you have. In addition, it also can prevent hasty decisions that may end up costing you a lot of money. It will give you a way to protect it, too. Here are 5 powerful reasons why financial planning can greatly benefit you.

1. To Avoid Costly and Unnecessary Financial Mistakes

It is easy to make a mistake when you have no specific plan for handling your money. People are losing money everyday simply because they either do not know what they are doing, or are not careful with it.

Careful and consistent financial planning, however, can enable you to avoid those mistakes that can cost you unnecessarily. This is true whether you use financial planning software or use a professional financial planner.

2. To Eliminate and Stay Out of Debt

Too many people today have a lot of debt. It prevents them from being able to have money when it really is needed to purchase larger items, and it costs them a lot of money because of interest.

By having a good budget in place, you could eliminate your debt and eventually be debt free. Not having to pay interest would be like giving yourself a raise of that much each month. Becoming debt free starts with a determination to get that way, and then taking steps to make it possible.

3. To Use Financial Planning to Retain As Much Money as Possible

Without careful financial planning, it is easy to let a lot of money slip through the holes – such as through unnecessary interest on credit cards. Or, you could end up with a lot of debt. By developing a solid financial plan, however, you can quickly minimize those debts, develop a better cash flow, and still be able to save more money for larger items or for retirement.

Family financial planning can bring any income under better control and give you more money to use where you need it – and want it – than any other practice. Also, because retirement money may not be so readily available for some in the future, it is important to have something saved for that time of life, too.

4. To Be Able to Keep a Larger Percentage from Taxes

If you pay a lot of money in taxes every year, then you should know that good financial planning can help you avoid paying too much to the government. There are many loopholes and legal ways to save money and keep more of it in your pocket. By keeping it, it would allow you to have more money for other more important things like education, hobbies, travel, retirement, and much more.

5. To Successfully Transfer As Much Money as Possible to Future Generations

Perhaps the most important reason why you need good financial planning is to have something to give to future generations. Even if you don’t make a lot of money, good money management can help you give more and enable your children or grandchildren, perhaps, to get a good start toward a quality college education.

Everywhere we look, whether it’s on the television, radio or newspaper, we’re hearing about how expensive it is and how we all need to cut back and learn to conserve gas and electricity. How can we do this when we have to have both you may be asking? While we do need both gas and electricity, there are many ways we can conserve and save money.

Good Car Maintenance

Few people realize how much more fuel an automobile uses when it’s in need of repairs, even small repairs. Simple maintenance like tune-ups (new spark plugs, wires, air and fuel filters) will help your automobile to run more efficiently. Having your tires correctly inflated to the manufacturer’s recommendations can save you a few miles per gallon. Driving 5 km/h less will also save you petrol. While we’re on the subject of petrol, you can save a lot by cutting back on the number of trips you make each day.

Home Appliances

The average home has over six appliances (freezer, stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, etc.). All of these appliances use gas, electricity or both, which equates into a lot of expenses to operate.

Children love opening the refrigerator just “see what we got”. Limit the number of times the door is opened on refrigerators and freezers as well as the duration.

Appliances like washing machines and dishwashers should only be run when you have a full load. Unless you absolutely need it, consider using warm or cold water (laundry) as opposed to hot. Hanging your clothes on an outdoor clothes line in the summer will save you money on the expense of a dryer as well as give your laundry a much fresher smell.

When you’re not using appliances, shut them off. Turning off lights when leaving a room can also save money. When you purchase appliances, always look for those that are energy efficient. If you have older appliances, make sure they are running as efficiently as possible.

Heating & Cooling

We go through a lot of money each year on heating and cooling our homes. While comfort is important year round, there are ways we can be comfortable while still saving money. Consider lowering your thermostat a few degrees in the winter, especially when you retire for the night. Using an extra blanket can make up the difference of the heat you may lose. Take advantage of the sunlight during the day by having your drapes open. Avoid using small electric heaters as these use up a lot of electricity. Ceiling fans are very effective for heating and cooling your home and use less electricity than your furnace and air conditioner.

In the summer time, keep your drapes closed during the hottest part of the day to keep your home cooler. Opening your windows early in the day while it’s still cool will lessen the amount of time you’ll need the air conditioner operating at full capacity. Try to avoid baking during the hottest part of the day as this will also make your air conditioner use more energy.

Recycling

Recycling is something we are hearing more and more about every day. By recycling, we are not only saving electricity and money but we are helping our environment as well.
